Travelogue - Things you MUST do in Canada

(specifically, near Montreal)

1. Without question, try the maple syrup. People say that all the time, and you won’t fully understand why until you try it. Mrs. Butterworth is put to shame! Its "montreal's food"; as someone so kindly told me, its like going to America and tasting our french fries.

2. Get yourself into a college party – everyone dresses like a raver – and if you’re a female, you get your shot with hot French Canadian guys. What really makes a college party different from a college party in America, however is the music and the dancing. You are encouraged to dance anyway you want… you don’t have to know all the latest trendy, sexy moves like America. Also, they play every type of music, even traditional Canadian music which isn’t so strange when you discover that some people know the traditional dances and will start doing them right on the dance floor – and this is perfectly normal!

3. You’ve seen it in that crappy Pauly Shore movie, and if you’re in Montreal, you can see it for yourself – the Biodome! A biological-technological wonder – it’s a giant structure that is separated into sections that recreate different climatic areas, complete with plants and animals. The only place where you can go from the tropics to the arctic in a matter of minutes!

4. In Canada, an American dollar goes ALONG way, so be sure to spend like there’s no tomorrow.

5. Take the drive to Quebec. It is a very romantic, gorgeous city that drips with class and culture. It seems almost like a little piece of Paris. There are even painters creating their art in the streets!

6. Get your booze and your gamblin' on. You only need to be 18 years old to drink or gamble in Canada.

7. For those of you who vacation to get out of the concrete jungles you live in and to see for yourself the glory of nature, check out this beautiful waterfall (see picture). It’s called the Parc de la Chute-Montmorency.

8. Meet people! Its true what they say about Canadians – they’re generally friendly people.

9. Also true of Canadians – they really LOVE Harry Potter down there. When in Montreal, you should test this by carrying Harry Potter paraphernalia (i.e. a backpack) around; someone will randomly come up and talk to you – it’s the easiest way to make friends. And be sure to shake their hand – its considered standard greeting here in America, but in Canada it is essential. It’s a major social blunder to not do this upon meeting new people.
